Sinfonia concertante

with Antje Weithaas & Georgy Kovalev

tot en met

Amsterdam Sinfonietta performs Mozart’s dramatic Sinfonia concertante together with violinist Antje Weithaas and violist Georgy Kovalev. Dvořák’s beloved Serenade for strings will also be heard.

Widmann’s theatrical Jagdquartett derives its title from one of Mozart’s string quartets. It demands great dramatic flair from the musicians. Imagine a wild pursuit that ends in the cellist’s downfall. Mozart’s father, Leopold, persuaded him to write the Sinfonia Concertante and become a master of the genre because of its strong appeal for audiences, who loved to witness the spectacular rivalry between the diverse soloists. Mozart created a profound and lively interaction between the soloists and the orchestra.

Dvořák’s Serenade for strings is a core work of the string orchestra repertoire. Much cherished for its rich melodies and gracious atmosphere, it brims over with Slavic elan and characteristic rhythms.
