Star violinist Janine Jansen makes a return appearance with Amsterdam Sinfonietta to perform one of the most popular classical works of all time: The Four Seasons. This programme will be performed once in the Netherlands as a prelude to their tour of South America.
Their prior performance of Vivaldi’s masterpiece in 2021 was highly acclaimed by the Dutch daily NRC: “A daring interpretative venture that propelled the listener from one surprise to the next. The imitations of nature were playful and vivid, Spring chirped with life, while the shock effects were truly startling.”
An equally hypnotic work is Shanty – Over the Sea by the British composer Thomas Adès, a timeless sailors’ song about the longing for freedom and a safe harbour. From another great British composer William Walton we hear the dramatic and virtuosic Sonata for Strings. Walton skillfully exploits all the possibilities of a string orchestra, with daring inventiveness.
