Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective join forces for a new production. Following the success of The Waste Land in the Netherlands and abroad, they now present the macabre and darkly humorous Till Death Do Us Part (or Not).
Mary Pearl seems, at first glance, to be a submissive and dutiful wife who quietly endures the cold and authoritarian behaviour of her husband, William. But behind this façade, a deep resentment simmers towards William’s intimidating dominance, which has taken away her personal freedom and affection. When the terminally ill William agrees to a medical experiment in which, after his death, his brain and one eye are kept artificially alive, Mary sees her chance to win back her freedom.
In the macabre and humorous performance Till Death Do Us Part (Or Not), based on Roald Dahl’s short story Mary and William, themes such as power, revenge and medical ethics come to life through explosive string music, hip-hop and acrobatic dance.
