Nai

Arabic classics and vocal improvisation

tot en met

Together with the Palestinian singer, flutist, and composer Nai Barghouti, we perform Arabic classics by Umm Kulthum and Fairuz. Her own music will also resonate during this concert.

The Palestinian singer, flautist and composer Nai Barghouti developed her own unique sound idiom by interweaving Arabic musical styles with jazz vocal improvisation:  NaiStrumentation. Nai’s singing is highly ornamented; using her voice as an instrument, she captures the music’s meaning with sounds rather than with words.

This program showcases Arabic classics from Umm Kulthum and Fairuz, alongside Barghouti’s own songs in arrangements for string orchestra, flute, piano, percussion, bass guitar and qanûn, interwoven with classical and contemporary works for string orchestra.
