In Intimate Letters, you’ll hear how Leoš Janáček’s love letters inspired one of the most passionate string quartets of the twentieth century. The world premiere of a new violin concerto by Reza Namavar will be played by Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Liza Ferschtman.
Janáček’s Intimate Letters is full of raw emotion, lively contrasts and expressive melodies. It is an expression of his deep, platonic love for Kamila Stösslová, who was 38 years younger than he was. The around seven hundred love letters he wrote to her between 1919 and his death in 1928 resulted in one of the most personal and passionate string quartets of the 20th century. Weinberg was also known for his deeply expressive music. In his Rhapsody he transforms Moldavian folk melodies into an energetic klezmer dance. Commissioned by Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Dutch composer Reza Namavar is writing a new violin concerto in which he lets his deep fascination for Vivaldi shine through. Together with violinist Liza Ferschtman, we will perform the world premiere.
