Fairuz Our Muse

Tribute to a living legend

For over sixty years, her voice has filled homes and streets across the Arab world: the living legend Fairuz. Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Het Concertgebouw pay tribute to the singer whose music has touched generations.

On 15 September 2026, Het Concertgebouw and Amsterdam Sinfonietta honour a living legend: Fairuz. For more than sixty years, her voice has been at the musical heart of the Arab world: a voice heard at daybreak in streets and homes from Beirut to Cairo, accompanying generations with songs of love, longing, loss and hope. With her timeless repertoire and unparalleled emotional power, Fairuz has become a cultural icon who transcends borders, languages and generations. In this special tribute, her music comes to life once more in a rich meeting of traditions and sound worlds.

The evening is led by the internationally acclaimed Palestinian singer and flautist Nai Barghouti, celebrated worldwide for her virtuosic voice and her unique style, in which Arabic classical singing, improvisation and jazz come together. Alongside her, the warm, poetic voice of Syrian singer Wasim Arslan, from Aleppo, brings the centuries-old Arabic vocal tradition into the present, building bridges between classical poetry, folklore and contemporary sounds. Together with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the internationally renowned string orchestra known for its refined ensemble playing and adventurous collaborations with exceptional soloists, they create an evening in which East and West, past and future meet.
