Petite messe solennelle

Rossini’s masterwork in collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Choir

tot en met

Led by the orchestra’s artistic director Candida Thompson, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Netherlands Chamber Choir present a new version of Rossini’s elegant mass, highlighting its tranquillity and drama.

The operatic composer Rossini wrote an ironic dedication in the score of his Petite messe solennelle: “Dear God, here you have it, this poor little mass. Is it really sacred music or is it damned music that I have created? I was born for opera buffer, as you well know! So may you be blessed and grant me Paradise.”

Led by artistic director Candida Thompson, Amsterdam Sinfonietta joins forces with the Netherlands Chamber Choir for this compelling 19th-century work, a refined mass full of drama and tranquillity, monumental gestures and poignant moments, in a totally new version for string orchestra, harmonium and chamber choir.
