The last Mendelssohn

with Kian Soltani

tot en met

The Austrian cellist Kian Soltani plays solo in a quintessentially classical progamme, with music by Bach, Haydn, Schubert and Mendelssohn.

The cellist Kian Soltani made his debut with Amsterdam Sinfonietta in their ‘Road to Iran’ programme in 2020, and also performed in the orchestra’s music film ‘Atashgah’. This time, The Austrian master cellist with Iranian roots appears as soloist in Joseph Haydn’s highly popular and virtuosic cello concerto in D Major and in the Adagio of Haydn’s 13th symphony, as well as performing in several songs by Schubert and Mendelssohn. A great admirer of Haydn, Mendelssohn composed his final, dramatic string quartet soon after his beloved sister passed away in 1874. Shortly after completing the work, the composer himself died at the age of 38. Thus, the work became a requiem not only for his sister but also for himself.
