School projects
An intensive collaboration in the area of music education has developed between Amsterdam Sinfonietta and De Venser Primary School in Diemen. January 2006 saw the start of an innovative music education project in the Kindergarten classes (the infants) at De Venser: it was a collaboration between Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Diemen Music School, De Venser Primary School, the musician and educationalist Melissa Bremmer, the Culture and Education Lectorate of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and Annemieke Huisingh, who was responsible for coordinating the project. The musicians visited the schools, the children and their parents came to the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam and the ‘little violins project’ involving the groups at school concluded with a concert by Amsterdam Sinfonietta in the Bimhuis in which the children played a musical role. The ‘little violins project’ involved musicians from Amsterdam Sinfonietta working with three groups of infants at the school on five occasions, during which every infant was given a violin to play on. The final result, which saw dozens of children on the stage, each equipped with a violin, proved to be a great success and certainly deserves repetition.
